Q Where should people check in when arriving at UVIC
A The check in desk at the Craigdarroch residence is where everyone should go. Lot 5 off Sinclair (Mackenzie turns into Sinclair) University of Victoria

Q Where can a team go for dinner?
A Not many choices within walking distance. I recommend going downtown. Cafe Mexico is a good choice. Take the #14 bus. Get off at Johnson and Douglas walk 2 blocks to 1425 Store Street Victoria, BC. Buses are every 30 minutes on Sunday evening. http://www.cafemexico.com/ Other restaurants Macaroni Grill, Milestones There are a variety of restaurants at university Centre ( approx 1.5 km away on Shelbourne St)
Q How far is it from Victoria International Airport to the University of Victoria?
A It is approximately 30 km (approx 30 minutes) from Victoria International Airport to the University of Victoria.
Q How will I get from the airport to UVIC?
A Players and their families who request airport pick up on their registration form will be picked up by school bus or volunteer drivers starting Thurs May 19
Q My family (4 people) will be traveling to Victoria for the Canadian Chess Challenge and we would like to stay in a hotel. Are there any hotels nearby?
A UVIC is 6km from downtown Victoria. There are many hotels to choose from. www.tourismvictoria.com The Hotel Grand Pacific is centrally located and is comfortable for 4 people (2 QS beds) www.hotelgrandpacific.com www.expedia.ca
Q How will I get to the Beach Chess Fest?
A Buses will leave from UVIC frequently on Saturday May 21. A schedule will be posted soon. Downtown Victoria bus tours (Saturday morning May 21st) will drop off at the beach or UVIC when the tour is done)
Q Where can I eat while staying at UVIC?
A The main cafeteria will be open over the weekend and is near the residences and the tournament site (Student Union Bldg)
Q What kind of clothing should I wear?
A The average daytime high temperature at the end of May is 17 C. Nights can be cool (7-8C) and it is often windy. There is a 25% chance of measurable precipitation in May and a zero percent chance of snow or frost! A few layers to adjust to variable temperatures and a light water resistant jacket is good to bring along. Leave your snow boots at home!
Q How can I get to Victoria?
A There are direct flights from Toronto and Calgary to Victoria. It is a short flight or ferry ride from Vancouver to Victoria. We recommend you arrive a few days early to get used to the time zone and to enjoy the city and surrounding forests, beaches and mountains.
Q Are there ATM (Bank machines) on campus?
