• A CYCC (2015 Canadian Youth Chess Championships; Jul 6-9, 2015 at Windsor, ON) qualifier for juniors
• Open to all youth players (Canadian and International) born in 1997 or later.
• Players who score 50% or place in the top 3 in age group and meet Chess Federation of Canada requirements for residency or citizenship will qualify for the Canadian Youth Chess Championships.
• Players compete in age categories: U-8 (07,08) U-10 (05,06) U-12 (03,04) U-14 (01,02) U-16 (99,00) and U-18 (97,98).
• Start time 10:00 am Reg.: 9:30 – 9:45 am (some sections may be combined).
• Time Control: G30. 5 round Swiss or round robin depending on numbers in each section

The BC Chess Challenge was held April 6 at the Hotel Grand Pacific in Victoria. 180 players from Kindergarten to grade 12 makes this one of the largest chess tournaments to held in Victoria. Congratulations to Josh Wild ( grade 12 student from Pacific Christian) who will be traveling to Halifax for the Canadian chess challenge in May. 

 

The Grand Pacific Open was also a great success with 120 players and special guests GM Hikaru Nakamura rated 6th in the world and WGM Nino Maisuradze from Paris, France. Many juniors stayed to compete in the GPO.

The BC Chess Challenge (Provincial Championships by grade) will be held April 6 at the Hotel Grand Pacific. This tournament is open to qualified players only. A number of regional qualifiers will be held across BC in the winter/spring 2012. We expect 200 players to compete in the BC Chess Challenge.  The top player in each grade will qualify for the Canadian Chess Challenge being held in Halifax (May 2012). 

  

The Canadian Youth Chess Championhips will be held in Surrey BC July 3-6 2012. Open to youth (<18) qualifiers from across Canada. 

  

The Canadian Open Chess Championships will be held in Victoria July 8-13 2012. Download Flyer Here. This is a must do for serious chess players. Open to all ages. A number of Grandmasters are expected to attend. There will be demos, lessons, blitz and bughouse tournaments and more.
