December 13th -- December 2020 Island Junior Rapid Online Open (registration https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/132142984223)

 

Online Tournament Format

    • The game is 15/10 Rapid format (15 mins with 10 seconds increment)
    • Free entry; Lichess rated
    • Tournament Director: Patrick Huang (CFC National Candidate Master)
    • Check-in: Room Meet link will be sent to players to join the meeting at 8:30am for tournament announcement. Players failed to join the Zoom meeting by 8:50am will be removed from pairing
    • Schedule: check-in at 8:30am by Zoom
    • Tentative round time (may start early based on the tournament progress -- please stay online until the tournament is completed): 9am/9:45am/10:30am/11:15am/12:00pm
    • By registering this tournament, the parent/guardian and the registered player agree to follow the fair play agreement terms in accordance with maintaining the highest possible standards of ethics and fair play during the online chess games. This agreement is required by the Victoria Junior Chess Association prior to participation in all online chess tournaments. Players who break the agreement will face forfeiture of their games, expulsion from the tournament, and sanctions by VJCS:
      • I promise to follow the CFC and FIDE Chess rules while playing my games (no communication with other players, etc)
      • I promise to not use a cell phone, chess engine, or seek any kind of outside assistance during my games.
      • I will follow instruction to use the program ZOOM in order to be monitored via webcam in the tournament as needed.
      • I understand that my games may be checked by Lichess.org's Fair Play team for signs of fair play violations.
      • The games of all prize winners will be certified by VJCS's Fair Play Committee and/or Lichess.org Fair Play Review Team.
      • I understand that VJCS may forfeit players 10 minutes after any round start unless notified otherwise.
      • VJCS has the sole right to interpret the results of the online tournament games.
      • I understand and agree that VJCS may use online games and Zoom meeting photo/video/screenshot from the tournament for promoting, training and educational purposes. The photo/screenshot/video may be published on Internet publicly.

**ATTENTION** Due to the concern of coronavirus, EBC Chess Meet-up is now temporarily suspended until further notice. Please stay healthy.

Regular junior chess meet-up held by EBC Chess Club: every Monday night (6:00 pm -7:30 pm) at Emmanuel Baptist Church (2121 Cedar Hill X Rd, Victoria BC V8P 2R6). Free practice for all level players. Please ask around for "chess club" when you arrive at the church. To receive regular chess meet-up notification please contact Haibo Sun at the event. More details.

  

     Victoria High School Championship 2019    

 

 

Paul Leblanc of the Victoria Chess Club presents the high school championship trophy to Mount Douglas Vice-Principal Paul Ledet. The winning Mount Douglas Secondary School Chess Team in 2019 was led by Victoria Junior Chess member, Mathew Geng, who has graduated and now in Waterloo University. Congratulations to the team!

If you are not able to stay on site during the tournament please make sure you have delegated the authority for direct supervision of your Child(ren) to another adult who will be on site. Please make sure your child(ren) and delegated adult knows your phone number including cell phone if you need to leave the tournament site. The Tournament Director(s) and Organizer(s) are not able to provide direct supervision. Tournaments may end sooner or later than the post finish estimates depending on how fast the rounds are completed in each section.
